Why must it take a health scare to put us on the right track with our health? I may not know the answer to that however I am here to help you from hitting that point.
I was 10 weeks pregnant with my third child, my oldest had just turned 2 and my second was just about to turn 1 and I landed myself in the hospital.
It came on unexpectedly and it was fierce pain, like unimaginable pain, worse then birthing my 2 previous children. I was experiencing intense abdominal pain and it was not letting up. I remember sitting in the emergency waiting room for an extreme amount of time in pain when I started seeing spots... like the ones you see right before you pass out. My body was going into shock from the pain and I didn't pass out, though I did end up vomiting all over the waiting room as a reaction to the pain. At this point they finally rushed us in shortly after, and the hospital staff did an ultrasound to check on baby and though I knew intuitively he was fine, it was confirmed and they gave me a shot of demerol for the pain, it was immediate relief.
So what was happening in my body to cause this extreme pain? It was an extreme gallbladder attack, what caused it?? It was accumulation of stressors on my body including a poor diet. I was a new mom with more than one baby, was not overly educated on nutrition or the impact food choices have on our body healthwise and relying far too much on processed convenience foods and fast food.
It was my wake up call...
I began to understand how important it was to be more proactive about my food choices and though we made some changes like decreasing our fast food significantly and I started making more meals from scratch but we didn't make any extreme changes at this point but it was enough of a scare to get me started on the right track.
A couple years later when this little baby was around 2 years old we ended up having another moment of awakening. At this time my children were 5,4,2 and I had a fourth baby! But our sweet little 2 year old had many challenges that we were diligently trying to figure out. One of the things we did was a food elimination diet, removing things like: dairy, soy, wheat, gluten, eggs... ya it was a big adjustment. This led me to really dig in, I spent hours every day reading and researching everything I could find about health, nutrition and ingredients in our food. I was discovering so many interesting and yet at the same time scary facts about the ingredients commonly found on grocery store shelves. I actually created a pamphlet or book if you will to help me with knowing which ingredients did what and which ones to stay away from (I am still on the search for it, I misplaced it).
This is when I made some life-changing shifts in our home, we from that point on were committed to no longer eating at fast food restaurants and I literally threw out all the processed foods in our house with harmful ingredients and started our family on a new journey to health.....
